LOW OIL PRESSURE READINGS (NEW SENDER MAY REPAIR P/N)

Model and Year 1987-88 BERETTA, CORSICA WITH 2.8L OR 2.OL AND GAGE CLUSTER (U21/UB3)

The oil pressure gage on some 1987-88 Beretta, Corsica models may read in the red warning zone during a hot idle condition. This could be a false indication of an oil pressure condition due to an improper sender calibration.

Engine oil pressure should be checked using an accurate external gage installed in place of the oil pressure sender. The minimum oil pressure measured at hot idle should be 6 PSI and this pressure should immediately increase when engine RPM is increased. If these readings are bad, there may be a problem within the engine oil distribution system.

If the engine has proper oil pressure, a new oil pressure sender can be installed which redefines the gage reading at the low end of the scale. This should give the customer a more accurate warning of low engine oil pressure.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
