Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1339732 Size: SH
  1. Place the transmission in neutral.
  2. Release the park brake, if applied.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  4. Mark the rear universal joint to the drive shaft flange.

    5. Object Number: 1206781 Size: SH
  5. Remove the retaining bolts and clamps.
  6. Remove the propeller shaft from the pinion drive flange.

    7. Object Number: 1347765 Size: SH
  7. Remove the propeller shaft from the transmission/transfer case.

    8. Object Number: 1207086 Size: SH
  8. Using tape or a rubber band, wrap the U-Joint bearing caps to ensure the bearing caps do not separate from the U-Joint.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1207086 Size: SH
  1. Remove the tape or rubber band from the U-Joint.

    2. Object Number: 1347765 Size: SH
  2. Install the propeller shaft in the transmission/transfer case.

    3. Object Number: 1339732 Size: SH
  3. Align the propeller shaft with the reference marks on the pinion flange.

    4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1206781 Size: SH
  4. Install the clamps and retaining bolts.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Lower the vehicle.
