CODE 13 OXYGEN SENSORS NEW DESIGN OXYGEN SENSOR

Oxygen sensor malfunction has been experienced on the following vehicles:

1982 and 1983 Camaros equipped with the 2.5L T.B.I. engine, Code 2.

1983 Celebritys and Citations equipped with the 2.5L T.B.I. engine, Code R.

Code 13 is set, which indicates loss of oxygen sensor output, and results in open loop operation of the engine.

To correct this condition, an oxygen sensor with a new design, produced after January 1, 1983 should be installed.

A new part number has been assigned to the service package containing the new design sensor AFS-9P - P/N 5613959.

AFS-9P - P/N 5613725 or P/N 5613959 can be used for replacement on all engine applications specifying P/N 5613725.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
