REVISED: POWER RACK AND PINION VALVE RINGS-SERVICE INFO.

When replacing the spool valve rings on the rack and pinion steering gear with the new green spool valve rings P/N 7840573, mentioned in the 81-T-47 July, 1981 Technical Bulletin, difficulty may be encountered when attempting to install the spool valve into the steering gear housing. The new green spool valve rings must be compressed in order to fit the valve into the housing bore. A special installation tool J33057 has been developed and is part of the 1982 essential tool package.

Use applicable labor operation numbers and times.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
