The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may comment about a whistle or whine noise that occurs when the transmission shifts into 3rd gear. The noise may be described as sounding like a tea kettle whistle. This noise is present with the TCC engaged or disengaged and may be present, although much less, in 2nd or 4th gear. This noise will not be present in 1st gear. This noise condition has only been noted on 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche and Suburban built in Silao (Plant Code G).
This condition may be caused by machining marks on the low and reverse roller clutch inner race (675).
Inspect the race (675) for machining marks or damage to the race area and replaced it as necessary.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
