Caution: Always wear protective goggles and gloves when removing exhaust parts as falling rust and sharp edges from worn exhaust components could result in serious personal injury.
When removing exhaust components, an accumulation of dirt and corrosion can make work difficult. Use a penetrating oil on the threads of the U-bolts in order to assist in the removal of these components.
Notice: Replacement of exhaust system parts must be OEM standard to ensure that the vehicle operates as designed.
Important:
• When jacking or lifting the vehicle from the frame side rails,
make sure the lift pads do not contact the catalytic converter or damage to
the converter will result. • When servicing of the exhaust system requires removing and replacing
the oxygen sensor, refer to Engine Controls. • Apply sealer GM P/N 9984226 or equivalent to all
slip joint connections. • Replace the tailpipe whenever the muffler is replaced. • Always use new nuts when installing the exhaust pipe to the engine
manifold. Clean the engine manifold stud threads with a wire brush before
installing the new nuts.
