       Important: Replace worn, damaged or broken steering linkage components. Do not attempt to repair damaged or broken components by welding.

    • Inspect the relay rod and the tie rod ends for the following conditions at the ball stud:
      • Excessive up-and-down motion
      • Excessive end play
      • Loss of motion
      • Refer to the appropriate procedure:
   -  Relay Rod Replacement
   -  Tie Rod End Inspection
    • Inspect for a shimmy condition at the idler arm. Measure the deflection. Refer to Idler Arm Inspection .
    • Inspect for a shimmy condition and/or excessive rusting at the following areas:
      • The connecting rod
      • The pitman arm
      • The steering damper
      • Refer to the appropriate procedure:
   -  Connecting Rod Replacement
   -  Pitman Arm Replacement
   -  Steering Linkage Shock Absorber Replacement
