CAMPAIGN: IMPROPER CLUTCH BRG. TRANS. PILOT SHAFT COMBINATION

Subject: PRODUCT CAMPAIGN 86C17 IMPROPER CLUTCH PILOT BEARING - TRANSMISSION PILOT SHAFT COMBINATION

Model and Year: 1985-86 C7 MEDIUM DUTY CONVENTIONAL TRUCKS WITH LH3, MPH, MWW AND MXN

General Motors has learned that certain 1985-86 C7 medium duty conventional trucks equipped with an 8.2L turbocharged diesel engine, Fuller 10 speed transmission and Lipe, 2 plate, push type, clutch may have been built with an oversized I.D. flywheel pilot bearing. This can result in erratic shift release and difficult shifting.

In some cases there also may be damage to the transmission main drive gear bearing retainer which may restrict clutch disengagement.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are all 1985-86 C7 medium duty conventional trucks equipped with LH3 (8.2L diesel engine), MPH (Fuller RT 6610 transmission), Mu (Lipe 14" 2 plate push clutch), and MWW (1.75" pilot shaft spline) within the following VIN breakpoints.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
