GMC TRUCK ONLY THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND REPLACES BULLETIN ISSUED JUNE 1993. DESTROY ALL COPIES OF EARLIER BULLETIN.
REVISIONS INCLUDE AN ADDED STEP TO THE SERVICE PROCEDURE AND CHANGES IN THE WARRANTY INFORMATION.
GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT CERTAIN 1993 C/K, G, AND P TRUCKS WITH THE 7.4L GAS ENGINES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH SOFT CRANKSHAFT SPROCKETS. A NON-HARDENED SPROCKET WILL HAVE EXCESSIVE WEAR AND COULD CAUSE AN ENGINE FAILURE.
TO PREVENT THIS FAILURE FROM OCCURRING, DEALERS ARE TO REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT SPROCKET. IN THE EVENT THAT THE TRUCK IS TOWED IN AND IT IS DETERMINED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT SPROCKET HAS FAILED, THE ENGINE SHOULD BE REPLACED. TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, CALL YOUR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE DEPARTMENT FOR A NEW ENGINE REPLACEMENT AND SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
