Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement On Vehicle

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  2. Remove the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 415298  Size: SH
  4. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) from the lower shroud (2).

  5. Object Number: 328807  Size: SH
  6. Remove the lower shroud from the upper shroud.
  7. Tilt the lower shroud down.
  8. Slide the lower shroud backward in order to disengage the locking tabs.

  9. Object Number: 368494  Size: SH
  10. Remove the shroud protector (1) from the lower shroud (2).

  11. Object Number: 415299  Size: SH
  12. Remove the 2 TORX® head screws (1) from the upper shroud (2).
  13. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  14. Remove the upper shroud (2) from the steering column.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 415299  Size: SH
  1. Install the upper shroud (2) onto the steering column.
  2. Install the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Screw the 2 TORX® head screws (1) into the upper shroud (2).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 TORX® head screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  6. Install the shroud protector (1) onto the lower shroud (2).

  7. Object Number: 328807  Size: SH

    Important: The shift lever seal must be seated in the shrouds.

  8. Install the lower shroud onto the upper shroud.
  9. Match the tab slots on the lower shroud with the locking tabs on the upper shroud.
  10. Tilt the lower shroud up.
  11. Slide the lower shroud forward until the locking tabs snap into the tab slots.

  12. Object Number: 415298  Size: SH
  13. Screw the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) into the lower shroud (2).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 pan head tapping screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  15. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement .
  16. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .

Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement Off Vehicle - Column Shift

Tools Required

J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 360562  Size: SH
  1. Remove the tilt lever from the lower trim covers.
  2. Set the steering column into J 41352 .
  3. Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection .

  4. Object Number: 324805  Size: SH
  5. Remove 2 pan head tapping screws (2) from the lower trim covers (1).
  6. Remove the lower trim cover (1).

  7. Object Number: 324810  Size: SH
  8. Remove 1 TORX® head screw (1) from the upper trim cover (2).
  9. Remove the upper trim cover (2).

  10. Object Number: 324816  Size: SH
  11. Remove the trim protector (1) from the lower trim cover (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 324816  Size: SH
  1. Install the trim protector (1) to the lower trim cover (2).

  2. Object Number: 324810  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the upper trim cover (2) and secure by using 1 TORX® head screw (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  5. The shift lever seal must be seated in the trim covers.

  6. Object Number: 324805  Size: SH
  7. Install the lower trim cover (1) and secure by using 2 pan head tapping screws (2).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 7 N·m (62 lb in).


    Object Number: 360562  Size: SH
  9. Take the column out from J 41352 .
  10. Install the tilt lever into the lower trim cover.

Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement Off Vehicle - Floor Shift

Tools Required

J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 360562  Size: SH
  1. Remove the tilt lever from the lower trim covers.
  2. Set the steering column into J 41352 .
  3. Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection .

  4. Object Number: 306205  Size: SH
  5. Remove 2 pan head tapping screws (1) from the lower trim cover (2).
  6. Remove the lower trim cover (2).

  7. Object Number: 324810  Size: SH
  8. Remove 1 TORX® head screw (1) from the upper trim cover (2).
  9. Remove the upper trim cover (2).

  10. Object Number: 324816  Size: SH
  11. Remove the trim protector (1) from the lower trim cover (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the trim protector (1) to the lower trim cover (2).

  2. Object Number: 324810  Size: SH

  5. Install the lower trim cover (2) and secure by using 2 pan head tapping screws (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).


    Object Number: 360562  Size: SH
  7. Take the column out from J 41352 .
  8. Install the tilt lever into the lower trim cover.
