Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer Schematics

DEFINITION: One or more of the low, mist, washer wipers, or delay modes are inoperative.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Circuit Description and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch through all the switch positions.

Does the windshield wiper/washer system operate normal?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Remove the WIPER fuse.
  2. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor connector.
  3. Test the resistance from the accessory voltage supply circuit terminal to the windshield wiper switch low/delay signal circuit terminal in the windshield wiper motor harness connector.
  4. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch through all of the delay positions.

Does the resistance decrease from positions 1- 5 within the specified values?

450K ohms-25K ohms

With the DMM connected as in the previous step turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the low speed position.

Is the resistance near the specified value?

680 ohms

Test and repair the windshield wiper switch low/delay signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test and repair the windshield wiper switch low/delay signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt or Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Standard.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the windshield wiper motor module. Refer to Windshield Wiper System Module Replacement .
