Transmission Housing Oil Seal Replacement Rear Seal Replacement(2WD)

Tools Required

J 22834-A Extension Housing Seal Installer.

J 6125-1B Slide Hammer.

J 23129 Universal Seal Remover.

J 8614-01 Pinion Flange Holder.

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.

  3. Object Number: 100520  Size: SH
  4. For 2WD models remove the following:
  5. • The mainshaft nut
    • The washer
    • The Yoke

    Object Number: 696799  Size: SH
  6. Remove the rear oil seal from the rear case using theJ 6125-1B (1) and the J 23129 (2) .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 100952  Size: SH
  1. Using J 22834-A install the new rear oil seal into the extension housing.

  2. Object Number: 100520  Size: SH
  3. For RWD models install the following:
  4. • The yoke assembly
    • A New washer

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install a new nut.

  6. Object Number: 727452  Size: SH

    Tighten
    Using the J 8614-01 tighten the Flange nut to 441 N·m (325 lb ft).

  7. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  8. Check the transmission oil level. Refer to Fluid Replacement .
  9. Lower the vehicle.

Transmission Housing Oil Seal Replacement Front Seal Replacement

Tools Required

    • J 41371 Clutch Release Tool
    • J 38801 Output Seal Installer

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  3. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 395628  Size: SH
  5. Remove the 2 clutch actuator bolts.
  6. Remove the clutch actuator from the input shaft.

  7. Object Number: 761128  Size: SH
  8. Remove the 4 bolts from the front bearing retainer.
  9. Carefully remove the front bearing retainer.

  10. Object Number: 761130  Size: SH
  11. Remove the seal from the front bearing retainer. Using a hammer and a punch.

Installation Procedure

Important: Inspect the bearing retainer for any nicks or cracks that may result in a leak. Replace as nessary.


    Object Number: 757859  Size: SH
  1. Place the seal in the front bearing retainer.
  2. Using theJ 38801 install the seal.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the front bearing retainer to the transmission.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the 4 bolts to 22 N·m (16 lb in).

  6. Install the clutch actuator and the bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the clutch actuator bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  8. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
  9. Install the rear propeller. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  10. Inspect the fluid level. Refer to Fluid Replacement .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
