Did you perform the Instrument Panel Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Verify the hourmeter operation. Refer to Instrument Cluster Description and Operation .

Does the hourmeter operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Observe the tachometer at the IPC.

Does the vehicle tachometer indicate engine RPM?

Go to Step 4

Go to Tachometer Inaccurate or Inoperative

Test the hourmeter engine speed signal circuit for an open or for a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Test the hourmeter ground circuit for an open or for a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the hourmeter. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the hourmeter. Refer to Engine Hour Meter Replacement .
