- Inspect the poppet valve adjustment when the following conditions
exist:
• | The steering stop screws requires adjustment. |
• | Different sized tires are installed. |
- Ensure that the steering stop screws are properly adjusted.
- Start the engine. Allow the vehicle to idle.

longer than 5 seconds, as damage to the steering pump may result.
- Turn the steering wheel counterclockwise until the steering effort increases
- full lock. Do not force the steering wheel.
4.1. | Determine if the pump goes into pressure relief. When the pump
goes into pressure relief, engine loading begins and the chassis rises or
lowers, depending on the turn direction. |
4.3. | If the pump does not go into pressure relief, continue with procedures. |
- Measure the clearance
between the steering stop bolt (2) and the axle center with the steering
wheel at full lock.
The clearance should be 3-5 mm (1/8 - 3/16 in)
(1).
If the clearance is not within specifications, adjust the poppet valves.
