Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 209275 Size: SH

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the brake caliper onto the brake caliper mounting plate.
  2. Tighten
Tighten the brake caliper bolts to 425 N·m (313 lb ft).

  3. Install the brake pipe clips onto the rear axle housing studs.
  4. Install the brake pipe clip washers and nuts onto the rear axle housing studs.
  5. Tighten
Tighten the brake pipe clip nuts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  6. Install the brake pipe gaskets and bolt.
  7. Tighten
Tighten the brake pipe bolt to 37 N·m (27 lb ft).

    Object Number: 200274 Size: SH
  8. Install the brake pads.
  9. Install the brake pad retainer spring.
  10. Install the brake pad retainer spring bolt.
  11. Tighten
Tighten the brake pad retainer spring bolt to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  12. Fill the master cylinder reservoir with brake fluid. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling in Hydraulic Brakes.
  13. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.
  14. Important: Inspect the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir after pumping the brake pedal.

  15. Pump the brake pedal several times in order to ensure that the pedal is firm and the brake pads are seated.
  16. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  17. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  18. Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Failure to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.

  19. Remove the wheel blocks.

Removal Procedure

  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. Block the wheels.
  3. Important:

       • Do not completely drain the master cylinder reservoir.
       • Drain the fluid from the brake caliper bleeder valve.
       • Drained the fluid into a suitable container. Discard the fluid.

  4. Remove about 2/3 of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  5. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  7. Object Number: 209279 Size: SH
  8. Remove the brake caliper retainer bolt (2).

  10. Object Number: 735696 Size: SH
  11. Compress the pistons, using the following method. Use a C-clamp between the inner brake caliper housing and the outer brake pad.

  12. Object Number: 171517 Size: SH
  13. Use screwdrivers to pry between the outer brake caliper housing and the outer brake pad.
  14. While compressing the pistons, watch the reservoir for possible brake fluid overflow. The inner brake pad may stay on the brake caliper mounting plate, Bendix® caliper.
  15. Remove the wheel speed sensor.
  16. Disconnect the brake hose.
  17. Cap or tape the brake hose fitting in order to prevent contamination.
  18. Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  19. Remove the brake caliper.
