Adjustment Procedure

    Object Number: 732404 Size: SH
  1. Measure the clearance between the release bearing housing and the clutch brake. If the clearance between the bearing housing and the clutch brake is less than 13 mm (0.5 in) or greater than 14 mm (0.562 in), proceed with the following procedure in order to adjust the clutch.
  2. Use the internal adjustment on the clutch in order to move the bearing.
  3. Specification
Set the release bearing to clutch brake clearance to 13-14 mm (0.5-0.562 in).

  4. Move the bearing clockwise in order to move the bearing toward the transmission.
  5. Move the bearing counterclockwise in order to move the bearing toward the engine.
  6. Push in and turn the Kwik-Adjust® 2 1/3 rotations in order to move the bearing 3.2 mm (0.125 in).
  7. Remove the lockstrap and turn in order to positive adjust.
  8. Remove fork and move the lugs in order to adjust the bearing.
  9. Put slight tension on the linkage in order to insure that the bearing is stretched and no movement towards the engine is detected.
  10. Measure the bearing clearance with a 13 mm (0.5 in) gauge in order to prevent moving the bearing towards the engine.
  11. Important: One side may have less clearance but still requires 3.2 mm (0.125 in) minimum clearance. 3.2 mm (0.125 in) clearance will provide approximately 25.4-76 mm (1-3 in) of free travel at the pedal. Tighten all of the locknuts.

  12. Inspect the clearance between the yoke tips and the bearing wear tabs
  13. Specification
The clearance between the yoke tips and the bearing wear pads is at least 3.2 mm (0.125 in) on both sides.

Important: Do not change the internal adjustment of 13-14 mm (0.5-0.562 in) between the bearing and the brake.

  14. Adjust the truck linkage in order to increase or decrease the yoke/bearing clearance.
  15. Inspect the release travel.
  16. Specification
13-14 mm (0.5-0.562 in) of release travel.

  17. Verify the clutch brake setting on vehicles with nonsynchronized transmissions.
  18. Depress the clutch pedal. Inspect the clutch pedal for the following conditions:
  19. • The clutch brake should actuate approximately 1 in from the end of the pedal stroke.
    • The pedal should be 13-25.4 mm (0.5-1 in) from the end of the stroke at the beginning of the clutch brake actuation.
         1. Insert a 0.01 in feeler gage or business card between the release bearing and the clutch brake.
         2. Depress the clutch pedal and squeeze the card.
         3. Let the pedal up slowly. Stop when the card can be pulled out from between the release bearing and the clutch brake. The pedal should be 13-25.4 mm (0.5-1 in) from the end of the pedal stroke.
  20. If the pedal stroke is more than 325.4 mm (1 in) , adjust the clearance between the yoke tips and the bearing wear pads to 13 mm (0.125 in) at both pads.
  21. If the pedal stroke is less than 13 mm (0.5 in), perform the following actions:
  22. • Adjust the upper pedal stop, if equipped.
    • Adjust the clearance between the yoke tips and the bearing wear pads to 13 mm (0.125 in) at both pads.
