This information applies to Federal and California 1982 Cavaliers and California only 1982 Chevettes with manual transmissions and 1982 Citation and Camaro with manual transmission and 2.8L V6 engines (engine Code X in Citation and Code 1 in Camaro).
When diagnosing a vehicle exhibiting a Code 34 (map sensor), the diagnostic charts in Section 6E of the service manual should be followed. If the diagnostic chart indicates the map sensor is functioning properly, a new PROM should be installed as shown on the attached chart. This PROM has been calibrated to prevent a Code 34 from being set when the map sensor is functioning properly.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
