J 41416 Ultrasonic Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Relieve the CNG fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical in the J Platform Service Manual.
  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-2.2L (LN2) in the J Platform Service Manual.

  6. Object Number: 401921  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the fuel line at the LPL line union (1).
  8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  9. Object Number: 384632  Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the fuel line at the HPR.
  11. Remove the exhaust heat shield attachment.

  12. Object Number: 102056  Size: SH
  13. Remove the fuel pipe mounting bolts from the body clips.

  14. Object Number: 102255  Size: SH
  15. Remove the fuel pipes from the body clips.
  16. Remove the CNG fuel line from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the CNG fuel line under the body of the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 102255  Size: SH
  3. Install the fuel pipes into the body clips.

  4. Object Number: 102056  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the fuel pipe mounting bolts into the body clips and the vehicle body.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the body clip mounting bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  7. Connect the fuel line to the HPR using a new O-ring face seal. Lubricate the O-ring with petroleum jelly or the equivalent.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel line fitting at the HPR to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Install the exhaust heat shield attachment.
  10. Tighten

        • Tighten the 2 exhaust shield nuts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
        • Tighten the exhaust shield bolt to 1 N·m (9 lb in).

  11. Connect the fuel line to the LPL line union (1) using a new O-ring face seal. Lubricate the ORFS with petroleum jelly or the equivalent.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel line fitting at the LPL line union to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  13. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls of the J Platform Service Manual.
  14. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical in the J Platform Service Manual.
  15. Start the engine. Inspect for CNG fuel leaks at each serviced fitting using the J 41416 .
