Removal Procedure
- Remove the front fender liner. Refer to
Front Fender Liner Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Remove the drive axle. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
in Wheel Drive Shafts.
Important: Do not damage the seal bore.
- Remove the seals (117). Use the J 23129
and the J 6125-1B
.
Installation Procedure
- Install the new oil seals.
Use the J 34115
.
- Lubricate the seal lip with a light wipe of transmission oil.
Important: Carefully guide the axle shaft past the lip seal. Do not allow the shaft
splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface because damage may
occur.
- Install the drive axle into the transmission case. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
in Wheel Drive Shafts.
- Install the front fender liner. Refer to
Front Fender Liner Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Lower the vehicle.
Notice: Do NOT overfill the transaxle. The overfilling of the transaxle
causes foaming, loss of fluid, shift complaints, and possible damage to the
transaxle.
- Fill the transmission to the proper level with DEXRON®-III oil.

- Inspect the oil seal for leaks.
