Use the following procedure for the following purposes:
• | In order to test the park lock system |
• | In order to verify the conditions below |
- Open the driver's side door. Ensure the driver's side door remains
open.
- Apply the parking brake in order to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
- Tilt the column to the full UP tilt position.
- Verify that the ignition key is not in the lock cylinder.
- Verify that the shift lever does not move from PARK by pulling
on the shift lever.
If you are able to move the shift lever from PARK, refer to
Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Adjustment
.
- Insert the ignition key into the lock cylinder. Verify that the
following conditions exist:
• | The key chime/alarm is ON. |
• | The key chime/alarm is sounding. |
- Turn the ignition key to RUN. Do not start the engine. Verify
that the instrument panel lights turn ON.
- Verify that the shift lever does not move from PARK by pulling
on the shift lever.
If you are able to move the shift lever from PARK, refer to
Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Adjustment
.
- Apply the brake pedal.
- Complete the following steps in order to test the shift lever:
10.1. | Move the shift lever from PARK to LOW 1. |
10.2. | Move the shift lever from LOW 1 to NEUTRAL. |
- Try to turn the ignition key to OFF-LOCK.
- Verify that the following conditions occur:
• | The ignition key does not rotate to OFF-LOCK. |
• | The key does not remove from the ignition switch. |
- Without moving the key, return the shift lever to PARK.
- Use the following procedure in order to unload the system:
• | Turn the ignition key towards RUN. |
• | Turn the ignition key to OFF-LOCK. |
• | Remove the key from the ignition switch. |
- If the following conditions occur, refer to
Console Replacement
or to
Shift Cable Replacement
Shift Control Cable Adjustment in Automatic
Transaxle:
• | The shift lever does not move into PARK. |
• | You are unable to remove the key. |
- If the key is removed, verify that the key chime/alarm is OFF.
If the key chime/alarm is ON, refer to
Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Adjustment
.
- Tilt the steering column to the full down tilt position.
- Verify that the ignition key is not in the lock cylinder.
- Verify that the shift lever does not move from PARK by pulling
on the shift lever.
If you are able to move the shift lever from PARK, refer to
Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Adjustment
.
- Insert the ignition key into the lock cylinder. Verify that the
following conditions exist:
20.1. | The key chime/alarm is ON. |
20.2. | The key chime/alarm is sounding. |
- Turn the ignition key to RUN. Do not start the engine. Verify
that the instrument panel lights turn ON.
- Use the following steps in order to test the shift lever:
22.1. | Move the shift lever from PARK to LOW 1. |
22.2. | Move the shift lever from LOW 1 to NEUTRAL. |
- Try to turn the ignition key to OFF-LOCK.
- Verify that the following conditions occur:
• | The ignition key does not rotate to OFF-LOCK. |
• | The key does not remove from the ignition switch. |
- Without moving the key, return the shift lever to PARK.
- Use the following procedure in order to unload the system:
26.1. | Turn the ignition key towards RUN. |
26.2. | Turn the ignition key to OFF-LOCK. |
26.3. | Remove the key from the ignition switch. |
- If the following conditions occur, refer to
Console Replacement
or to
Shift Cable Replacement
Shift Control Cable Adjustment in Automatic
Transaxle:
• | The shift lever does not move into PARK. |
• | You are unable to remove the key. |
- If the key is removed, verify that the key chime/alarm is OFF.
If the key chime/alarm is ON, refer to
Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Adjustment
.
- If you make any adjustments to the system, perform a park lock
system test again in order to ensure proper operation of the park lock system.
The park lock system and the brake transmission shift interlock system
(BTSI) are operating properly if you are able to complete the following steps
correctly:
- Release the parking brake.
- Close the driver's side door.
