The power steering fluid level is indicated by marks on either of the following components:

    • A see-through fluid reservoir
    • A fluid level indicator on the fluid reservoir cap

Notice: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use power steering fluid GM P/N 1050017 or equivalent meeting GM Spec. No. 9985010. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.

Important: Reduced power steering assist upon cold weather starting is more noticeable in the steering gear systems with the longer hoses. This condition is related to the power steering viscosity. Do not confuse this condition with conditions having similar symptoms. A new low-temperature climate service fluid GM P/N 12345867 (32 oz) or the equivalent is available for use in cold climates.

If the fluid is warm (about 77°C (170°F), or hot to the touch, ensure that the fluid level is at the full HOT mark.

If the fluid is cool (about 21°C (70°F), ensure that the fluid level is at the full COLD mark.
