Power Steering Return Hose Replacement 2.2L
Removal Procedure
- Remove the power steering
return hose (3) from the steering pump (1).
- Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the front exhaust pipe, automatic transmission only. Refer
to
Intermediate Pipe Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the power steering
return hose (4) from the steering gear (3).
- Remove the power steering hose retainer nut (5).
- Remove the power steering return hose (4) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the power steering
return hose (4) to the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the power
steering return hose retainer nut (5).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 13 N·m (10 lb ft).
- Install the power steering return hose (4) to the power
steering gear (3)
Tighten
Tighten the return hose to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Install the front exhaust pipe, if removed. Refer to
Intermediate Pipe Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the power steering
return hose (3) to the power steering pump (1).
Tighten
Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
.
Power Steering Return Hose Replacement 2.4L
Removal Procedure
- Remove the upper air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls
- 2.4L.
- Remove the power steering
return hose (2)
from the power steering pump (1).
- Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the front exhaust
pipe, automatic
transmission only. Refer to
Intermediate Pipe Replacement
in Engine
Exhaust.
- Remove the power steering return hose (2) from the vehicle.

- Install the power steering
return hose (2)
to the vehicle.

to the power steering gear (3).
Tighten
Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

return hose (2)
to the power steering pump (1).
- Install the upper air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls
- 2.4L.
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
