VACUUM PUMP PIVOT PIN OIL LEAK REPAIR

Some 1983 Cavaliers assembled prior to October 4, 1982, may exhibit oil leakage from the pivot pin hole of the mechanical vacuum pump.

Processing changes at the source have been implemented to correct this condition and suspect vacuum pumps, P/N 7840552, have been purged from WDDGM stock.

Oil leakage from the vacuum pump pivot pin may result in oil accumulation on the engine oil pan rail and can be incorrectly diagnosed as a oil pan or main seal leak.

On vehicles suspected of leaking oil in the areas noted above and assembled prior to october 4, 1982, it is recommended that the vacuum pump be inspected for leakage prior to initiating any other corrective action.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
