Subject: | Distortion of Decklid Spoiler |
Models: | 2007 Chevrolet Caprice SS (Export) |
Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint 7L879493 |
Decklid lip spoiler may exhibit distortion due to assembly stress. This condition has been recognized in vehicles within the vehicle assembly process and all vehicles exhibiting the condition have been quarantined and corrected prior to shipment. It is, however, possible that vehicles built prior to design change may experience this condition while in transit.
The distortion condition is evident as a bowing at the ends of the spoiler, as shown in Figures 1 and 2 below.
It may be possible to repair the existing spoiler, avoiding the need for a replacement part which will require painting.
To reinstall, peel back one end of the backing paper on the double-sided tape to just beyond the spoiler edge. Install the spoiler and hand start the outboard nuts to allow for correct alignment of the spoiler to the decklid. Once aligned, remove the tape and firmly press the leading edge of the spoiler to the decklid
Alternative Step 3: If unacceptable distortion is still present , replace the spoiler. Ensure that the new spoiler meets all specifications (as a reworked part or rework prior to painting).
Ensure all double-sided tape residue is removed from the decklid prior to installing the new spoiler.
Rework: Double-sided tape kit, P/N 92194090
Replacement: If a new spoiler is required, purchase primed and unpainted spoiler through your regular parts source. Prime paint and install replacement spoiler (P/N 92170149)
