Alarm Siren Inoperative Genuine Accessory

Diagnostic Fault Information

Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description

This diagnostic procedure should be used in the case of the following: After the alarm system has been armed, and the system is triggered to activate, the vehicle horn sounds but the alarm siren fails to sound. When the vehicle security is violated, the alarm siren and the horn will sound. The alarm module will activate the alarm siren to via a serial data line. An inoperative alarm siren may be caused by the following:

    • Incorrect or poor power supply to the alarm siren.
    • Defective alarm siren.

Circuit/System Testing

Incorrect or Poor Power Supply to the Alarm Siren

  1. Ignition OFF, alarm siren connector disconnected.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the alarm siren connector B+ circuit terminal 2 and ground.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the alarm siren connector RAP output circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  5. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the Rear Park Assist (RPA) circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  6. Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal 4 and ground.
  7. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

Defective Alarm Siren

For alarm siren test purposes, a diagnostic test wire is provided to test the alarm siren.

  1. Disconnect the alarm siren connector and locate the diagnostic wire at the end of the alarm wiring harness.
  2. Locate the diagnostic wire at the end of the alarm siren harness.
  3. Connect and extend the alarm siren diagnostic wire with a test lead to allow access with the hood closed.
  4. Connect the alarm siren connector.
  5. Close the hood, trunk lid and all the doors.
  6. Arm the alarm system and wait 30 seconds for the alarm to complete the arming cycle.
  7. Measure for voltage at the extended diagnostic wire to ground.
  8. If the measured value is above 10 volts then no fault is present.
  9. If the measured value is below 2 volts further diagnosis in required.
  10. Ignition OFF, alarm module harness connector and alarm siren harness connector disconnected.
  11. Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the alarm module harness connector terminal 5 and the alarm siren harness connector terminal 3.
  12. If greater than the specified range, test the circuit for an open/high resistance.
  13. Test for infinite resistance between the alarm module harness connector terminal 5 and ground.
  14. If not the specified value, replace the alarm module harness.
  15. Test for infinite resistance between the alarm module harness connector terminal 5 and B+.
  16. If not the specified value, replace the alarm module harness.
  17. Replace the siren and test the operation of the alarm system.
  18. If the siren is still not functioning, replace the alarm module.
