THE OIL PRESSURE GAGE MAY READ "O" AFTER THE ENGINE STARTS. THIS MAY START AS AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION, THEN GRADUALLY BECOME PERMANENT. THIS CONDITION DOES NOT OCCUR ON THE SEO CLUSTER, WHICH USES A GAGE WITH A SENDER.
THE OIL PRESSURE GAGE ON THE BASE CLUSTER USES A SWITCH AND AN IN-LINE RESISTOR TO INDICATE OIL PRESSURE (SEE CIRCUIT ON PAGE 8A-82-2). THE RESISTOR IS TAPED INTO THE HARNESS JUST ABOVE THE GLOVE BOX OPENING (SEE ILLUSTRATION). THE TAPE COVERS THE RESISTOR AND WIRES IN ONE PIECE. THE SOLDER CLIP ON THE RESISTOR MAY RUB AGAINST THE GROUND WIRE, WHICH CAUSES A SHORT TO GROUND, MAKING THE GAGE READ "O".
1. DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.
THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT (SIR). REFER TO CAUTIONS IN SECTION 9J UNDER "ON-VEHICLE SERVICE" AND THE SIR COMPONENT AND WIRING LOCATION VIEW IN SECTION 9J BEFORE PERFORMING SERVICE ON OR AROUND SIR COMPONENTS OR WIRING. FAILURE TO FOLLOW CAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, PERSONAL INJURY, OR OTHERWISE UNNEEDED SIR SYSTEM REPAIRS.
2. REMOVE THE GLOVE BOX ASSEMBLY (FIGURE 2, PAGE 8C-9), AND THE I/P TRIM PLATE (#18, FIGURE 5, PAGE 8C-11).
3. RELEASE THE HARNESS CLIPS FROM THE I/P CARRIER, IN THE AREA SHOWN IN THE ILLUSTRATION. THE CLIPS ARE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE I/P CARRIER, JUST ABOVE THE GLOVE BOX DOOR OPENING, EASILY VISIBLE WHEN THE TRIM PLATE IS OFF. PULL THE HARNESS OUT FOR ACCESS.
4. REMOVE THE HARNESS TAPE TO FIND THE RESISTOR. THE RESISTOR SHOULD BE NEAR THE GLOVE BOX LATCH AREA. REMOVE THE TAPE FROM THE RESISTOR AND WIRES. RETAPE EACH SPLICE CLIP SEPARATELY, TO INSURE THAT THE WIRES CANNOT TOUCH. THEN ADD ADDITIONAL TAPE OVER THE RESISTOR AND WIRES.
5. RETAPE THE HARNESS, POSITIONING ANY CLIPS THAT WERE REMOVED, AND RE-INSTALL. MAKE SURE ALL THE CLIPS ARE PROPERLY ATTACHED TO THE I/P CARRIER, TO PREVENT ANY RATTLES.
6. RE-INSTALL THE TRIM PLATE AND THE GLOVE BOX. RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.
FOR VEHICLES REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, USE: LABOR OPERATION: N6360 USE PUBLISHED LABOR OPERATION TIME.
