Beginning in July, 1982, transmission Build Date 184, all 700-R4 transmissions were built with the following revised parts:
- Spacer plate/valve body gasket - Spacer plate/case gasket - Spacer plate - Oil pump cover assembly - Waved reverse input clutch plate
Use of these parts will provide a more desirable neutral to reverse garage shift feel.
SERVICE INFORMATION
1. The following chart contains the correct part numbers to service transmissions built both before and after this change:

2. Any transmission, built prior to breakpoint serial no.184, which has an objectionable neutral to reverse garage shift feel can be updated by installing all the new design parts shown in the above chart.
3. When installing a new spacer plate or oil pump cover assembly on any THM 700-R4 transmission built prior to serial no. 184, be certain to:
a. Check the spacer plate identification.
b. If the spacer plate is identified by an A, use the past design parts.
c. If the spacer plate is identified by a B, use the new design parts.
4. If the transmission was built after serial no. 184, use the new design parts.
5. The new design and past design parts are non-interc angeable except:
a. The new design waved reverse input clutch plate and the new design spacer plate gaskets can be used in place of the past design parts if necessary.
