In late 1981, some of the 1982 THM 2OO-4R transmissions were built containing an output shaft with a snap ring attached to it. The snap ring is designed to act as a stop or a shoulder for the hub of the rear internal gear. (See Figure 1.)
SERVICE INFORMATION
When rebuilding a 1982 THM 2OO-4R transmission that has the output shaft with a ring, make sure that the ring is put back on the old shaft before reassembly. If a new shaft must be purchased, no snap ring will be needed. If a new ring is re- quired, it can be ordered using P/N 8621331. Late type shafts have shoulder to act as a stop. Be sure the shaft has either the snap ring or the shoulder for the internal gear to stop against.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
