1982 INCREASED TIRE INFLATION PRESSURES

All 1982 Chevrolet passenger vehicles are designed to operate at higher inflation pressures than tires used in the past. Higher inflation pressures are combined with improved tire constructions and compounds to give reduced rolling resistance. Lower rolling resistance allows the car to roll easier which means increased fuel economy.

Tire inflation pressures are specified on the door sticker located on the driver's door. Most models specify pressures of 35 PSI. Note that these are cold inflation pressures. If tires are checked when they are "HOT" from driving, their pressures should be set at 4 PSI ABOVE the recommended cold pressure. Failure to maintain proper pressures will decrease fuel economy, cause the tires to wear out faster, and reduce the ride and handling characteristics that have been built into the car.

Exceptions to the 35 PSI tire inflation pressures are listed below:

PSI PSI VEHICLE FRT. TIRE RR. TIRE ------- --------- -------- Malibu Classic Wagon 30 35

Caprice/Impala Wagon 24 32

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
