Removal Procedure

Important: Care must be taken when handling the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. Damage to the engine coolant temperature sensor will affect proper operation of the fuel injection system.

    Object Number: 21671 Size: MH
  1. Drain the radiator coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  2. Disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
  3. Using a 19 mm deep well socket, remove the sensor.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 21671 Size: MH
  1. Coat engine coolant temperature sensor threads with sealer P/N 1052080 or equivalent.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Hand start the ECT sensor into the engine.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the ECT sensor to 12.5 N·m (9.2 lb ft).

  5. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
  6. Refill radiator with coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  7. Start the engine and inspect for a coolant leak.
