THIS BULLETIN IS BEING ISSUED TO REVISE THE SERVICE INFORMATION FOR THE 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION (M49) REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE IN SECTION 7B OF THE SERVICE MANUAL.
THE PUBLISHED SERVICE PROCEDURE FOR THE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF THE 5 SPEED (M49) TRANSMISSION IS INCORRECT. WHEN REMOVING THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION AND FLYWHEEL HOUSING MUST REMAIN AN ASSEMBLY. SINCE THE CLUTCH HYDRUALIC ACTUATOR IS BOLTED TO THE FACE OF THE TRANSMISSION, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEPARATE THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE FLYWHEEL HOUSING (AS STATED IN THE PUBLISHED PROCEDURE) UNTIL THE ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE, AND THE CLUTCH HYDRAULIC ACTUATOR CAN BE REMOVED. ACCESS TO THE ACTUATOR FASTENERS CAN ONLY BE GAINED ONCE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY IS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE.

GENERAL MOTORS BULLETINS ARE INTENDED FOR USE BY PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIANS, NOT A "DO-IT-YOURSELFER". THEY ARE WRITTEN TO INFORM THOSE TECHNICIANS OF CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR ON SOME VEHICLES, OR TO PROVIDE INFORMATION THAT COULD ASSIST IN THE PROPER SERVICE OF A VEHICLE. PROPERLY TRAINED TECHNICIANS HAVE THE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND KNOW-HOW TO DO A JOB PROPERLY AND SAFELY. IF A CONDITION IS DESCRIBED, DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE BULLETIN APPLIES TO YOUR VEHICLE, OR THAT YOUR VEHICLE WILL HAVE THAT CONDITION. SEE A GENERAL MOTORS DEALER SERVICING YOUR BRAND OF GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE FOR INFORMATION ON WHETHER YOUR VEHICLE MAY BENEFIT FROM THE INFORMATION.
