CLUTCH PEDAL MISADJUSTED (ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE)

SUBJECT: CLUTCH PEDAL MISADJUSTED (ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1993 "F" MODELS

An inspection process was overlooked at the plant during the assembly process where the clutch pedal may not have been pulled to the upper limit. This will be evident by looking at the relationship of the clutch pedal to the brake pedal. The clutch pedal should be at the same height and on the same plane as the brake pedal. Should a Camaro/Firebird be found where the clutch pedal appears to be lower than the brake pedal when at the top of its travel, the following procedure should be followed:

1. Verify the clutch pedal height is below the level of the brake pedal.

2. Grasp the clutch pedal when it is at the top of the current level and firmly pull upward. You should hear a "click" type sound as the clutch arm pushes the clutch switch and comes to rest on the clutch pedal stop.

3. Verify the clutch is now at the same level as the brake pedal. If the clutch pedal is now at the proper height, no further action is required. If the clutch pedal remains lower than the brake pedal, the service manager should contact the Technical Assistance Center for assistance.

As a part of new vehicle inspection, Camaros/Firebirds built prior to P2114601 /P2205697 should be inspected. As always, cruise control operation and disengagement should be checked on the pre-delivery road test.

Proper clutch pedal adjustment is important to have complete clutch disengagement and can effect the pedal travel required to achieve complete clutch release during normal transmission shifting.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
