SERV MAN UPD-SEC 6A2A,6A3A,1B POWERTRAIN, OIL PAN, A/C COND.

Subject: POWERTRAIN, OIL PAN AND AIR CONDITIONING ASSEMBLIES REMOVAL

Model and Year: 1993 CAMARO

Section 6A2A and 6A3A (Powertrain Removal Procedures)

This update is to identify an easier method for removing the powertrain. Instead of disconnecting each engine wiring harness connector from its components (ie. Knock Sensors, 02 Sensors and Transmission connectors), disconnect three engine wiring harness connectors (blue, black and white) located inside the vehicle at the right side of the instrument panel (kick panel). Once this is done, the harness and rubber grommet can now be removed through the front of dash. Next, disconnect the forward lamp wiring harness, the positive lead at the generator, the positive lead at the junction block and negative lead at the mounting stud (next to junction block). Using these procedures will allow for the ECM and the engine wiring harness to be placed on the engine prior to engine removal.

IMPORTANT: When re-installing the engine wiring harness back through the front of the dash, the rubber grommet MUST BE INSTALLED PROPERLY to insure correct sealing. If the grommet is torn or damaged for any reason, it must be REPLACED.

Section 6A2A (V6 Oil Pan Assembly Removal)

This portion of the update pertains to the removal of the oil pan assembly. This is to inform the technicians that on certain vehicles, the cradle assembly bolts may need to be loosened prior to oil pan removal. If adequate clearance is not available in order to remove the oil pan from the engine, please add these steps to the existing Service Manual procedures.

1. With the engine raised from its mounts, place two(2) jack stands at either ends of the cradle assembly for additional support. 2. Loosen the cradle mounting bolts NO MORE THAN SIX (6) COMPLETE REVOLUTIONS. 3. Remove oil pan.

Section 1 B (A/C Condenser Assembly Removal) This update is to identify an easier method for the removal and installation of the A/C condenser assembly. it is not necessary to drain the engine coolant and remove the radiator, cooling fans and A/C condenser as a complete assembly, which currently is stated in the Service Manual. When the A/C system is discharged and the A/C lines are disconnected, separation of the A/C condenser from the radiator can be accomplished, allowing for condenser removal.
