YOU MAY RECEIVE COMMENTS CONCERNING A "JUMP OUT OF GEAR" CONDITION FOR THE REVERSE GEAR IN A BORG-WARNER T5 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION.
INSUFFICIENT LOAD AT THE REVERSE LINKAGE MAY PERMIT TRANSMISSION TO DISENGAGE FROM REVERSE.
VERIFY THAT OTHER CONDITIONS SUCH AS SHIFTER BOOT MISLOCATION IS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE "JUMP OUT OF GEAR" CONDITION (REFERENCE BULLETIN 477202).
A REVISED OVER-CENTER SPRING MECHANISM HAS BEEN INCORPORATED IN THE REVERSE LINKAGE TO ADDRESS THE CUSTOMER CONCERN. THE 1996 MODEL YEAR BORG-WARNER T5 INCORPORATES THESE REVISED COMPONENTS ALREADY.
THIS REVISED SYSTEM CONSISTS OF AN OVER-CENTER SPRING, SPRING PIN, AND TRANSMISSION CASE. REFER TO THE 1996 TRANSMISSION UNIT REPAIR MANUAL FOR THE LOCATION OF THESE REVISED COMPONENTS.
IN ADDITION, DEPENDING ON THE FREQUENCY OF THE REVERSE "JUMP OUT OF GEAR" CONDITION, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE MAINSHAFT, COUNTER SHAFT, REVERSE SHIFT FORK, REVERSE IDLER GEAR, 5TH / REVERSE SHIFT LEVER, AND ANY APPLICABLE BEARINGS AND SEALS BE INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE AND REPLACE PER APPLICABLE SERVICE MANUAL PROCEDURES.
FOR EASE OF REPAIR AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION, A COMPLETE REVISED T5 ASSEMBLY (PART NO. 12533893) IS AVAILABLE TO ADDRESS THE REVERSE "JUMP OUT OF GEAR" CONDITION. THIS ASSEMBLY INCORPORATES THE REVISED COMPONENTS SHOWN ABOVE. THE REVISED T5 TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY IDENTIFICATION TAG WILL READ "1352-259". THE PREVIOUS MODEL TRANSMISSION WAS A "1352-245".
