Rear Brake Hose Replacement CenterBrake Flex Hose
Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hoses and brake
pipe fittings.
Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting ends
in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
- Use a backup wrench on the hose fitting, disconnect the brake pipe fittings
from the junction block, then cap or plug the brake pipe fitting ends.
- Remove the junction block
retaining bolt.
Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting end in
order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
- Disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the flex hose.
- Remove the brake hose retaining clip.
- Remove the rear brake flex hose.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the rear
flex hose junction block bolt to the bracket on rear drive axle.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
- Install both brake pipes to flex hose at the rear drive axle.
Tighten
Tighten the brake pipe fittings to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
Important: The hose must not be twisted. Make sure the hose is not in contact with
any suspension component.
- With the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, install the brake
hose into the bracket.
- Install the brake hose retaining clip.
- Connect the brake pipe fitting to brake flex hose.
Tighten
Tighten the brake pipe fittings to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
- Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
.
- Lower the vehicle.
