Using The Maintenance Schedule

Because of the different ways GM vehicles are used, maintenance needs vary. More frequent maintenance intervals than found in these manual may be needed. When reading this section, keep in mind the conditions under which the vehicle is operated, and adjust the maintenance intervals accordingly.

The proper fluids and lubricants to use are listed in Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations . Use the proper fluids and lubricants whenever servicing this vehicle.

The maintenance schedules found in this manual are for vehicle that:

    • carry passengers and cargo within recommended limits. Refer to Vehicle Certification Label in General Information.
    • are driven on reasonable road surfaces within legal driving limits.
    • use recommended unleaded fuel.

Selecting The Right Schedule

Select the correct maintenance schedule according to the following definitions:

Short Trip/City Definition

Follow the Short Trip/City maintenance schedule if any one of these are true:

    • Most trips are less than 5 to 10 miles (8 to 16 km). This is particularly important when outside temperatures are below freezing.
    • Most trips include extensive idling (such as frequent driving in stop and go traffic).
    • The vehicle is operated in dusty areas frequently.
    • Trailer towing or using a carrier on top of the vehicle frequently.
    • The vehicle is used for delivery service, police, taxi, or other commercial application.

Short Trip/City Maintenance Schedule Summary

These intervals summarize the Short Trip/City Maintenance Schedule. Refer to Maintenance Schedule - Short Trip/City for the complete maintenance schedule.

Every 5 000 km (3,000 miles)

    • Engine Oil and Filter Change (or every 3 months, whichever occurs first).
    • Chassis Lubrication (or every 3 months, whichever occurs first).
    • Drive Axle Service (or every 3 months, whichever occurs first).

Every 10 000 km (6,000 miles)

Tire Rotation.

Every 25 000 km (15,000 miles)

    • Automatic Transmission fluid and filter change if the vehicle is driven under one or more of the following (severe service conditions):
       - In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature regularly reaches 32°C (90° F) or higher.
       - In hilly or mountainous terrain.
       - When doing frequent trailer towing.
       - Uses such as found in taxi, police, or delivery service. If you do not use your vehicle under any of these conditions, the fluid and filter change should be changed every 83 000 km (50,000 miles).
    • Air Cleaner Filter Inspection (if driving in dusty conditions).
    • Front Wheel Bearing Repack (2WD only) (or at each brake relining, whichever occurs first).

Every 50 000 km (30,000 miles)

    • Air Cleaner Filter Replacement.
    • Fuel Filter Replacement (except 2200 code 5 L4 engine).

Every 83 000 km (50,000 miles)

Automatic Transmission fluid and filter change (non-severe service conditions).

Every 100 000 km (60,000 miles)

Engine Accessory Drive Belt Inspection.

150 000 km (90,000 miles)

Fuel Filter Replacement (2200 code 5 L4 engine only).

Every 166 000 km (100,000 miles)

    • Spark Plug Replacement.
    • Spark Plug Wire Inspection.
    • Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Valve Inspection (4.3L engine only).

Every 240 000 km (150,000 miles)

Cooling System Service (or 60 months, whichever occurs first).

Long Trip/Highway Definition

Follow the Long Trip/Highway maintenance schedule ONLY if none of the conditions from the Short Trip/City maintenance schedule are true. Do not use this schedule if the vehicle is used for trailer towing, driven in a dusty area or used off paved roads.

Long Trip/Highway Schedule Summary

These service intervals summarize the Long Trip/Highway Maintenance Schedule. Refer to Maintenance Schedule - Long Trip/Highway for the complete maintenance schedule.

Every 12 500 km (7,500 miles)

    • Engine and Oil Filter Change (or every 12 months, whichever occurs first).
    • Chassis Lubrication (or every 12 months, whichever occurs first).
    • Drive Axle Service.
    • Tire Rotation.

Every 25 000 km (15,000 miles)

Automatic Transmission fluid and filter change if the vehicle is driven under one or more of the following (severe conditions):

Every 166 000 km (100,000 miles)

    • Spark Plug Wire Inspection.
    • Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Valve Inspection (4.3L V6 engine only).

Every 240 000 km (150,000 miles)

Cooling System Service (or 60 months, whichever occurs first).
