Verify that one of the backup lamps is inoperative.

Do the backup lamps operate normally?

  1. Remove the inoperative bulb.
  2. Inspect the bulb.

Is the bulb open?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Replace the bulb.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Block the wheels and set the parking brake.
  2. Connect a J 39200 Digital Multimeter (DMM) between CKT 1324 (LT GRN) at the lamp socket terminal A and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Place the transmission in REVERSE.

Does the J 39200 (DMM) display the specified value?

Go to Step 7

Locate and repair the open in CKT 1324 (LT GRN). Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Connect a J 39200 (DMM) between CKT 1324 (LT GRN) terminal A at the lamp socket and CKT 1350 (BLK) terminal G at the lamp socket.

Does the J 39200 (DMM) display the specified value?

Inspect the lamp socket for damaged or corroded terminals.

Are the lamp socket terminals damaged or corroded?

Repair or replace the lamp socket as needed.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the bulb.

Locate and repair the open in CKT 1350 (BLK) between the lamp socket and S427. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
