Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the following to replace the right hand fender:
  2. 1.1. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
    1.2. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement in Engine Electrical.
    1.3. Remove the underhood fuse block assembly. Refer to Underhood Fuse Block Replacement in Engine Electrical.
    1.4. Remove the electronic brake control module. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) Replacement in Antilock Brake System.
    1.5. Remove the VCM/PCM from the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to VCM Replacement/Programming in Engine Controls-4.3L .
  3. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  4. Object Number: 303005  Size: SH
  5. Remove the bolts that retain the wheelhouse to the radiator support.

  6. Object Number: 354515  Size: SH
  7. Remove the bolts that retain the wheel house to the fender.

  8. Object Number: 303004  Size: SH
  9. Remove the bolt that retains the wheel house panel to the cowl.

  10. Object Number: 354515  Size: SH
  11. Remove the wheel house panel from the fender.
  12. Remove the splash shield from the wheel house panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Extension Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the splash shield to the wheelhouse panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Extension Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 354515  Size: SH
  3. Install the wheelhouse panel to the fender.

  4. Object Number: 303004  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the wheelhouse panel to the cowl.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts that retain the wheelhouse panel to the frame to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).

  7. Install the bolts that retain the wheel house panel to the fender.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).


    Object Number: 303005  Size: SH
  9. Install the bolts that retain the wheel house panel to the radiator support.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).

  11. Install the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  12. Install the following components if the right hand fender was replaced:
  13. 7.1. Install the VCM/PCM to the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to VCM Replacement/Programming in Engine Controls-4.3L.
    7.2. Install the underhood fuse block assembly. Refer to Underhood Fuse Block Replacement in Engine Electrical.
    7.3. Install the electronic brake control module. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) Replacement in Antilock Brake System.
    7.4. Install the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement in Engine Electrical.
    7.5. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
