For 1990-2009 cars only
- Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
- Remove the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
- Remove the horn contact (2) from the signal switch housing assembly (1) in the following manner:
- Remove the wire harness straps (1) from the steering column and the steering column wire harness assembly.
- Disconnect the connectors of the steering column wire harness assembly.
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• Air bag deployment • Personal injury
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• Unnecessary SIR system repairs • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.
Important: When removing the horn contact, the horn contact spring may become a projectile. Remove slowly.
| 3.1. | Turn the horn contact plunger to release it from the signal switch housing assembly (1). |
| 3.2. | Remove the horn contact (2) and spring. |
