Endgate Release System Check Automatic Trans

Important: If an action has an abnormal result that is not one of the abnormal results listed for that action, continue with the Diagnostic System Check until you reach the step that lists the abnormal result. The Diagnostic System Check lists an abnormal result after all of the conditions that could cause the abnormal result are tested. The diagnosis for the abnormal result is based upon where it is stated in the diagnostic system check. A particular diagnosis may not work if it is taken out of sequence.

Close the endgate window and the endgate, if open.

    • The endgate closes and latches.
    • The endgate window closes and latches.
    • The endgate does not latch.
    • The endgate window does not latch.

  1. Place the cargo lamp switch in the ON position (if available).
  2. Place the automatic transmission in the PARK position.
  3. Depress the REAR HATCH (the endgate window release) switch. The switch is located on the instrument panel.
    • The endgate window is released when the REAR HATCH switch is depressed.
    • The cargo lamp illuminates with the liftgate open.
    • The cargo lamp does not illuminate.
    • The endgate window release actuator is inoperative.

  1. Close the endgate window.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Depress the brake pedal.
  4. Continue to keep the brake pedal depressed.

  5. Place the automatic transmission in the reverse position.
  6. Depress the REAR HATCH (the endgate window release) switch. The switch is located on the instrument panel.

The endgate window is not released when the REAR HATCH switch is depressed.

The endgate window release operates in gear.

  1. Place the transmission in the PARK position.
  2. Release the brake pedal.
  3. Stop the engine.
  4. Lock the side doors.
  5. Insert the ignition key in the endgate lock switch.
  6. Operate the endgate lock switch in order to unlock the doors.
    • The ignition key operates the endgate lock switch.
    • The side doors unlock.
    • The ignition key does not operate the lock switch.
    • One or more side doors do not unlock.

Depress the endgate lock switch in order to release the endgate window.

The endgate window is released when the endgate lock switch is depressed.

The endgate lock cylinder switch does not operate.

  1. Close the endgate window.
  2. Close and lock the left front side door.
  3. Depress the endgate lock switch in order to release the endgate window.

The endgate window does not release when the endgate lock switch is depressed.

The endgate window opens with the drivers door locked.

  1. Unlock the left front side door.
  2. Place the headlamp switch in the PARK position.
  3. Adjust the panel dimmer switch to the maximum position.
  4. Verify that the endgate window release switch illumination lamp is illuminated.
  5. Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.

The endgate window release switch illumination lamp is illuminated with the headlamp switch in the PARK position.

The illumination lamp does not illuminate.

  1. Place the cargo lamp switch in the ON position (if available).
  2. Set the parking brake, if the parking brake is not set.
  3. Depress the REAR HATCH (the endgate window release) switch located on the instrument panel.
    • The endgate window is released when the REAR HATCH switch is depressed.
    • The cargo lamp illuminates with the liftgate open.
    • The cargo lamp does not illuminate.
    • The endgate window release actuator is inoperative.

  1. Close the endgate window.
  2. Place the manual transmission in REVERSE.
  3. Take other actions as needed in order to ensure that the vehicle will not move with the parking brake released.
  4. Release the parking brake.
  5. Depress the REAR HATCH (the endgate window release) switch located on the instrument panel.

The endgate window is not released when the REAR HATCH switch is depressed.

The endgate window opens with the park brake released.

  1. Set the parking brake.
  2. Lock the side doors.
  3. Insert the ignition key in the endgate lock switch.
  4. Operate the endgate lock switch in order to unlock the doors.
    • The ignition key operates the endgate lock switch.
    • The side doors unlock.
    • The ignition key does not operate the lock switch.
    • One or more side doors do not unlock.
