Ignition switch wiring harness and brake pedal linkage interference could cause ignition switch wiring harness wear in early production USPS vehicles. Should you be asked by USPS to repair this condition on one of these vehicles, the service procedure below should be followed.
Vehicles Involved
1987 and 1988 USPS Vehicles from 1GBBS10E2H2300001 to 1GBBS10E2J2304242
Quantity Description Part -------- ----------- ---- 1 Nylon Strap 11509088
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
1. See Figures 1 and 2 for detail.
2. Pull the ignition switch wire harness to the vehicle left side of the steering column. Thread a nylon strap (P/N 11509088) around the harness and through the opening between the brake pedal support bracket and the engine cover.
3. Tighten the strap around the harness and the bracket leg to obtain a minimum of 0.75" clearance between the harness and the brake pedal lever.
4. Cut off and remove excess strap.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
