CAMPAIGN: 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSAXLE REPLACEMENT

Model and Year: 1989 CHEVROLET "J" & "L" CARS

This Bulletin revises step #1 of the Service Procedure and The Claim Information section of Chevrolet Campaign Bulletin 89C16, dated September, 1989. Specifically, both areas now contain information for handling transaxles which Hydra-Matic informs the dealer not to replace.

SERVICE PROCEDURE (REVISED)

1. Phone Hydra-Matic (use applicable phone number from "Parts Information" section) and provide them the Bar Code Number (see illustration page 3 of bulletin) from the transaxle to be replaced. Hydra-Matic will then confirm that the transaxle involved does or does not require replacement. If Hydra-Matic informs the dealer that the transaxle does not require replacement, install the Campaign Identification Label and return the vehicle to the customer. If Hydra-Matic informs the dealer that the transaxle does require replacement, proceed with steps 2 & 3 of the campaign bulletin.

NOTICE: WHEN RETURNING TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLIES TO HYDRA-MATIC AFTER PERFORMING THE CAMPAIGN SERVICE PROCEDURE, BE SURE TO CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW THE RETURN SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS ON PAGE 4 OF THE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
