VIN NUMBER Linden JE641036 VIN NUMBER Wilmington JY653265

This condition is the result of the shifter knob setscrew losing contact with the shifter handle. Loss of contact is due to the brass threaded insert backing out of the shifter knob housing.

To repair this condition a new shifter knob, P/N 10126453, must be ordered from GMSPO and installed. Do not attempt to retorque the setscrew on the old knob, this will result in only a temporary fix at best. When installing the new knob it is important that the setscrew be torqued between 10 and 14 in. lbs. Over torquing the setscrew will result in stripping or backing the brass insert out of the knob housing.

IMPORTANT: RETURN ALL P/N 10066451 SHIFTER KNOBS, CURRENTLY IN DEALER STOCK, TO GMSPO FOR CREDIT.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
