DOOR LOCK - HIGH EFFORTS WHEN UNLOCKING DOORS WITH KEY
Customer comments of high efforts required to unlock the front doors with keys on some 1987 and 1988 Beretta, Corsica or Tempest styles may be due (on units with power door locks) to a binding bell crank in the lock module system.
New bell cranks are now available to repair this condition, the part numbers are as follows:
Beretta 16604772 Right 16604773 Left
Corsica / Tempest 16604774 Right Front 16604775 Left Front 16604776 Right Rear 16604777 Left Rear
The procedure after removing the door trim is as follows:
1. Carefully peel the water deflector down to access the lock module cover, and remove cover.
2. Center punch the bell crank attaching rivet and drill out rivet using a 4.8mm (3/16") drill bit.
3. Remove bell crank by disengaging tab from module back plate, pulling lever out of actuator end and rotating to align slot with lock rod.
------------- 1. Install the bell crank by positioning slotted portion over the lock rod and rotating into position. Insert lever of bell crank into power actuator end, locate tab into slot on module backing plate and push into place.
2. Align hole in bell crank with hole in module back plate and fasten using a 3/16" X 1/4" rivet.
3. Reinstall module cover, water deflector and door trim.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
