STRG. WHEEL DAMPENER RATTLE NOISE/INSTALL REVISED DAMPENER

MODEL AND YEAR: 1987 CORSICA/BERETTA WITH L4 ENGINES & AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Some early Corsica/Berettas may have a rattle within the steering wheel. This condition may be caused by the dampener assembly located under the cover of the steering wheel (refer to illustration).

To correct this condition replace the dampener assembly with revised P/N 17985141 which has a blue paint stripe on it.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. Remove steering wheel coverassembly. 3. Remove steering column nut and dampener. 4. Install new dampener, P/N 17985141, and position the cruise control wire away from the dampener.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
