Subject:New Features To Be Reviewed During the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) Process

Models:2006 Chevrolet Aveo
2006 Pontiac Wave (Canada Only)

This bulletin is being revised to update the information found under Cruise Control Operation. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-00-89-066 (Section 00 - General Information).

This bulletin is intended to explain several new features that must be reviewed during the pre-delivery inspection process. If there are any concerns noted during the PDI process, the dealer should submit a Field Product Report (refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 02-00-89-002D).

Radio/Clock Shipping Fuse

All Chevrolet Aveos and Pontiac Waves are shipped with the fuse for the radio and clock disconnected from the left side fuse panel. A black plastic fuse holder holds the fuse in place. To operate the radio or to set the clock, the fuse will have to be pushed into the fuse panel. It is not necessary to remove the fuse. Simply push the end of the fuse holder in towards the fuse panel. The fuse will slide in place and the radio and clock will operate.

Engine Coolant

The Aveo/Wave uses blue silicate/hybrid coolant. When the cooling system either needs to be topped off or flushed, GM recommends the use of green silicate coolant (conventional). Check the fluid level and adjust as necessary. This type of coolant will have to be drained, flushed and refilled every 48,000 km (30,000 mi). Use P/N 12378560 (1 gal) (in Canada, use P/N 993088 (1L) or P/N 993089 (4L)).

Power Steering Fluid

Important: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper power steering fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.

The power steering system uses DEXRON® III fluid. Check the fluid level and adjust as necessary. Use P/N 12378470 (1 qt) (in Canada, use P/N 10952621 (500 ml) or P/N 10952622 (1L)).

Automatic Transmission Fluid

Important: Please do not intermix DEXRON® III fluid with the T-IV fluid.

The automatic transmission uses T-IV fluid, P/N 88900925 (1 qt) (in Canada, use P/N 22689186 (1L)).

Automatic Transmission Shifter

The Aveo/Wave's shifter is a gated shifter. You will have to push down on the brake to get the shifter out of Park. The shifter uses the shifter’s knob as the release mechanism and there is no other separate button that has to be pushed to release the shifter. To shift the transmission from "Neutral" or "Drive" to "Reverse" or "Park," you will have to push down on the shifter’s knob to move the lever into reverse. The shifter will not move into reverse if the knob is not depressed. Test all of these features during the PDI.

Tire Pressure

The vehicle’s tires are shipped with 276 kPa (40 psi) and the pressure must be reduced to 207 kPa (30 psi). The tire pressure label can be found at the bottom of the driver’s B-pillar.

Automatic Transmission "Hold" Operation

When the "hold" button is depressed, the Hold indicator located in the Secondary Information Center will light. There are two Hold mode features: (Test all of these features during the PDI)

    • Winter Function -- When the vehicle is at a stop, depress the hold button. The transmission will start off in third gear. This will reduce the torque to the front wheels and will help the vehicle maintain traction on slippery road surfaces.
    • Manually Controlling Shift -- When the vehicle is in motion, depressing the Hold button will make the transmission operate like a three speed transmission. You will be able to downshift the transmission manually. The transmission will not shift into forth gear when the Hold feature is activated.

Cruise Control Operation

Object Number: 1708392 Size: SH

Important:

   • For U.S. vehicles only: There will be a cruise control "hang tag" attached to one of the steering wheel spokes. This tag is ONLY to be removed by the customer.
   • At the time of the pre-delivery inspection, the cruise control should be set "ON" by pressing the button on the side of the cruise control pod.

The optional cruise control on the Aveo/Wave has an ON/OFF switch (1) as well as a SET/COAST and a RESUME/ACCEL button on the right hand side of the steering wheel. The ON/OFF switch (1) is located on the side of the control unit, not readily visible from the driver position. Be sure to test the cruise control function during the PDI test drive.

Power Door Lock System

The Aveo/Wave uses a central door locking system. The system is activated from the driver’s door only. To lock the doors, push the door lock knob down and to unlock the doors, pull the door lock knob up. The power door lock system will not operate when the driver’s door is open. The driver's door can only be locked from the outside by using the key or the optional remote keyless entry transmitter. Test all of these features during the PDI.

Outside Power Mirror

Aveos/Waves equipped with the power mirror option will have a manually adjusted mirror on the driver’s side and a power electric mirror on the passenger’s side. The passenger’s side mirror can be adjusted by moving the black round switch located on the driver’s door panel. Test all of these features during the PDI.

Rear Wiper Operation (5-Door Models)

The rear wiper can be operated by pushing forward on the wiper lever located to the right of the steering wheel. There are two detents -- the first one will operate the wiper and the second detent will operate the wiper as well as the washer. Test all of these features during the PDI.

Cigarette Lighter and Power Accessory Outlet Operation

Both the cigarette lighter and accessory power outlet only operate when the ignition is turned to the "ACC" and "On" positions. Test all of these features during the PDI.

Airflow from HVAC Vents

The outer HVAC vents will have airflow in all HVAC modes. The purpose for the airflow is to improve side window defogging. Test all of these features during the PDI.

Front Head Restraints

The front head restraints are tilt adjustable. Ensure that the front head restraints are adjusted upward to the first or higher detent position to allow tilt adjustment reset. The front head restraint tilt adjustment cannot be reset if it is at the bottom position.

Loose Shipped Items

The antenna, wheel covers and floor mats are shipped in the trunk on the four-door model and in the rear cargo area on the five-door model. The antenna is under the trim that covers the spare tire. The floor mats and wheel covers are on top of the trim panel. The license plate screws and Owner Manual are located inside the glove box. Make sure all of these pieces are there. If not, notify management.
