Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1251969  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the instrument panel assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  3. Notice: Handle the case carefully to avoid damage to the door actuating linkage.

  4. Remove the heater/air distribution case assembly. Refer to HVAC Module Assembly Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 1251975  Size: SH
  6. Remove the screws that secure the evaporator case cover.

  7. Object Number: 1251976  Size: SH
  8. Remove the cover.

  9. Object Number: 1251977  Size: SH
  10. Slide the evaporator flange support plate upward to facilitate evaporator removal.
  11. Remove the evaporator from the case.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1251977  Size: SH
  1. Install new O-rings onto the evaporator tubes.
  2. Install the evaporator core into the case. Center the evaporator flange in the case opening.

  3. Object Number: 1251976  Size: SH
  4. Install the evaporator core case cover with the screws.

  5. Object Number: 1251975  Size: SH
  6. Install the heater/air distribution case. Refer to HVAC Module Assembly Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 1251969  Size: SH
  8. Install the instrument panel assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
