Adm Msg - OnStar Service Modules with Deactivated Settings

Subject:Adm Msg -- OnStarĀ® Service Modules with Deactivated Settings

Models:All 2000 Model Year Vehicles Equipped with OnStarĀ®

Attention: Service Manager, Parts Manager and Technicians

Important: Any time an OnStarĀ® module is replaced, service personnel must contact OnStarĀ® via an OnStarĀ® blue button press and update the customer's account and reactivate the vehicle if necessary.

Beginning in February, Autocraft will begin shipping all service replacement Vehicle Interface Units (VIUs) with deactivated settings. (This involves vehicles included in recall 01045A OnStarĀ® Global Positioning System.)

This means that when the module is installed into a vehicle, the emergency key will not function, nor will the OnStarĀ® system make a call when the air bag deploys. In addition, the module will not wake up with the key off which will not allow the OnStarĀ® Center to assist the customer with a lockout situation (DRX is off).

For these reasons, it is absolutely imperative that when a module is replaced, the OnStarĀ® Center is contacted to update the customer's account and reactivate the vehicle.

The OnStarĀ® key (blue button) will connect to a dedicated sales team. If the customer is an active OnStarĀ® subscriber, the sales team advisor will update the customer's account and transfer the call to a service group to reactivate the vehicle.

IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THIS PROCESS BE PERFORMED WHEN A MODULE IS REPLACED. FAILURE TO COMPLETE THIS PROCESS WILL LEAVE THE CUSTOMER WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO CONTACT ONSTARĀ® EMERGENCY AND PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM CONTACTING ONSTARĀ® EMERGENCY IN THE EVENT OF AN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT.

If the customer does not have an active OnStarĀ® account, the sales team will update the customer's account with the replacement STID and not reactivate the vehicle. Even if the customer does not have an active subscription, OnStarĀ® must be notified on the module change.
