DEFINITION: Battery indicator does not light with the ignition switch in RUN position and engine stopped.

  1. Disconnect the generator connector.
  2. Turn the ignition to RUN position.
  3. Connect a fused jumper wire from BRN (25) wire at the generator to ground.

Does the fuse blow?

  1. Locate and repair a short to battery voltage in BRN (25) wire from the generator to the bulb in the I/P cluster.
  2. Check that BRN (25) wire is connected to cavity B of the generator connector.
  3. If OK, replace generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.

Is the repair complete?

Does the battery indicator light?

--

Go to Step 4

Connect an ammeter in series from BRN (25) wire at the generator connector to same generator terminal.

Is the ammeter reading more than the specified value?

0.25 A

Go to Step 5

  1. Locate and repair short to BRN (25) wire by another battery voltage source or low circuit resistance.
  2. If OK, replace generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Check that BRN (25) wire is connected to cavity B of the generator connector.
  2. If OK, replace generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect the I/P cluster.
  2. Using an ohmmeter, test BRN (25) wire for resistance between the generator and I/P cluster connector.

Is the ohmmeter reading more than the specified value?

25 ohms

Go to Step 8

Locate and repair an open in BRN (25) wire from the generator to the I/P cluster.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Remove and inspect the battery indicator lamp.

Is the indicator lamp open?

--

Go to Step 10

Replace the battery indicator lamp.

Is the replacement complete?

--

System OK

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Connect a voltmeter between the I/P cluster connector PNK (39) wire cavity B17 and Ground.

Does the voltmeter show battery voltage?

Go to Step 12

Repair or replace the I/P cluster.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Locate and repair an open PNK (39) wire from I/P fuse block to the I/P cluster connector.

Is the repair complete?
