Chime Conditions
An audible warning is used to indicate a system fault or warn the driver
of a critical vehicle condition.
The BCM checks calibration data for chime information anytime a driver
warning or message is displayed.
Audible warnings bring the driver's attention to one or more of the
following conditions:
• | The seat belt is unbuckled and the ignition switch is in ON or
START. |
• | The key is in ignition switch, the ignition switch is set to
OFF or ACC, and drivers front door is open. |
• | The headlamps or parklamps are on, the ignition switch is in OFF
or ACC, the and drivers door is open. |
• | The parking brake is engaged and the vehicle is moving faster
than 5 km/h (3 mph). |
• | The parking brake is engaged and the vehicle is in gear longer
than 8 seconds. |
• | The check gauges indicator is on. |
• | The turn signal is on continuously for a distance of 1.2 km (0.75
mi.). |
Chime Priorities
When multiple chimes are required, only the chime with the highest priority
sounds. The chimes are prioritized as follows:
• | The Fasten Seat Belts Warning chime overrides all other audible
chimes if they exist simultaneously. |
• | The Key In Ignition Warning chime overrides the Lamps On Warning
chime if both exist simultaneously. |
Chime Rates
The rates of chime operation are as follows:
• | The fasten belts warning chime rate is 50 pulses per minute. |
• | The lamps on warning chime rate is 300 pulses per minute. |
• | The key in ignition warning chime rate is 150 pulses per minute
for the first three seconds, then 18 per minute at the 50 per
minute decay rate. |
• | The park brake warning chime rate is 300 pulses per minute with
continuous operation if the vehicle is moving at a rate of speed greater
than 5 km/h (3 mph) or vehicle in gear longer than 8 seconds. |
